What We Do

Humanity Heroes provides essential living supplies to our homeless community living on the streets and in shelters across America. To date, we’ve helped over 60,000 homeless individuals and families and our philanthropic efforts have led to donations of more than $700k in non-perishable items directly to the less fortunate residents and their pets in the United States.

About Our Founder
Michael "BigMike" Straumietis

After a life-changing near-death experience in 2011, lifelong entrepreneur Michael “BigMike” Straumietis felt moved to do his part to help humanity.

Living in Bulgaria in 2012, he launched Holiday Heroes a short time later, a non-profit organization to support families in need. He rallied food and beverage companies, and with the support of corporate donations, provided over 27,500 families with celebratory meals for the Christmas and Easter seasons along with tens of thousands of toys for children who would otherwise go without gifts.

But Holiday Heroes was only a start.

BigMike soon relocated to Los Angeles, where he witnessed the dire conditions the unsheltered community of Los Angeles faces on a daily basis.

The stark reality had a profound impact on him.

Having enjoyed a great deal of success in the business world, including founding and running Advanced Nutrients, BigMike lives by the mantra that, if a company has the financial resources, then it has a social responsibility to help humanity.

So he spearheaded efforts in Los Angeles to improve the quality of life for the unsheltered. In 2016, he founded Humanity Heroes which, to date, has helped over 60,000 homeless individuals and families, and has partnered with seventeen homeless shelters and charities.

A firm believer in direct action, BigMike walks the streets of Skid Row to ask the men and women he meets what they need most. Right away, it became clear they lacked the basic living supplies most of us take for granted on a daily basis.

Humanity Heroes responded by creating “Humanity Packs” — backpacks stocked with essential items that provide months of support, hygiene, and relief.

Today our team organizes the annual Skid Row Backpack Donation, where we distribute these life-giving essentials to homeless Angelenos as well as other cities in the USA.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Humanity Heroes donated 17,000 masks to homeless shelters and community organizations to help stop the spread of the disease in Los Angeles.

And in August, 2020, BigMike and Humanity Heroes were officially recognized by Mayor Garcetti and the City of Los Angeles Parks and Recreation for our 2019 Humanity Pack donations to the City of Los Angeles and our 2020 COVID-19 face masks and hygiene kit donations.

For BigMike, one of the biggest gifts of his professional success is having the means to pay it forward. And the same drive that made him a global entrepreneur is at the heart of his efforts to help humanity. He won’t stop until he’s able to provide support for every homeless person in the United States.
